Could another love triangle be brewing in Cousins? With Jeremiah and Belly moving full speed ahead with the wedding and Conrad getting ready to brood for his life, I don’t know if my heart could take it. And yet, there might be another love triangle ahead, courtesy of The Summer I Turned Pretty‘s Steven, Denise, and Taylor.
In case you forgot, Denise is Steven’s co-worker at Adam’s venture capital firm, where she teases him mercilessly. Not exactly the set up for a relationship… or is it? Even I, a Taylor-Steven shipper, must admit that Steven and Denise have the potential to grow into an enemies-to-lovers romance. And many fans believe that the show is setting them up to have some kind of romantic tension in the future. A relationship? A flirtation? A one night stand? Who knows?
To get answers, Us Weekly went straight to the source, actor Sean Kaufman, to ask about the Steven and Denise rumors. “Because of the work banter? I get it,” he said, as if the thought never even crossed his mind. “I will say that Jenny [Han] has a very creative imagination,” he continued. “I think fans have got to remember to to trust her. She knows what she’s doing.”
Sean clearly isn’t ruling out a potential Denise and Steven romance, but he also doesn’t seem to be abandoning hope that Steven will get back together with Taylor. Speaking about Steven and Taylor’s complicated relationship in season 3—which started with them cheating on their significant others with each other—Sean said he hoped to see the characters “grow and try not to hurt the people that they love.”
Though Steven and Taylor called it quits after Steven’s near-fatal car crash, Sean said, “For Steven and Taylor, I don’t think it’s where they want to be or where they need to be.” He continued, “But it’s where they have to be because they keep putting themselves in positions where they think that what they’re doing is what they want. When in reality, they just need to get over the hump and stop hurting each other.”
