We pretty much can’t get through a day without a photo from the set of The Devil Wears Prada 2 leaking, so it’s no exaggeration to say Anne Hathaway is everywhere. And she’s about to be even more everywhere (positive) once press for this movie kicks off.
In the interest of preparing ourselves for an incoming Hathaissance, now seems like a good time to brush up on all things Anne. Starting with her dating history—which is honestly pretty wild.
Topher Grace: 1999 to 2001
These two allegedly dated for a couple years, but honestly it’s hard to find concrete proof. So if they were together, they were a pretty under the radar couple. That said, Topher and Anne did show up together at several events—and stayed friends for years after their alleged breakup. They even co-starred in 2010’s Valentine’s Day. Here’s their friendship vibe.
Scott Sartiano: 2002
Anne and restaurateur Scott Sartiano also allegedly dated briefly, but it was the early aughts and the reporting was pretty murky. There is a mention of their relationship in the New York Post, though!
Hugh Dancy: Circa 2002 to 2004
Anne and Hugh met on set of Ella Enchanted and their on-screen chemistry was definitely real because they allegedly dated for a couple years in real life after the movie wrapped.
Raffaello Follieri: 2004 to 2008
Anne dated Raffaello Follieri for four years, and they broke up just days before he was arrested for a fraud scheme where he posed as a Vatican representative.
“I’ve always believed in people’s capacity for goodness,” Anne told Vogue after the breakup. “I still believe that people are good. What I’m not so trusting about anymore is their relationship to their own goodness… It takes a minute for me to let my guard down, but once I do and I get to know someone, I’m very open, very trusting. Some might say too trusting, because considering the amount of money that can be made from selling gossip, I could be very easily taken advantage of.”
The Oscar-winner also talked about filming Love & Other Drugs while going through the breakup, saying “Gosh, I hate talking about the breakup, because I don’t want it to define me, but as is to be expected, there were a lot of lingering trust issues. And I think that making a film about trust that required a great deal of trust—well, it was a challenge to get there.”
Josh Lucas: 2008
Anne and Josh (of Sweet Home Alabama fame) were spotted grabbing dinner in Denver during the Democratic National Convention—classic place to fall in love!—and a source apparently said “They definitely looked like a couple. They were really into each other, giggling and smiling and even holding hands at one point. You could almost taste their chemistry! She looked beautiful and happy.”
Here’s a photo from that fated night:
Adam Shulman: 2008
Anne and her husband Adam Shulman met through a mutual friend and connected right away.
“We hit it off immediately, but it took us a pretty long time to get together,” Anne told Vogue. “He thought that I had a boyfriend, and I thought that he had a girlfriend, so I thought that I’d better keep my distance because I didn’t want to be that girl.”
She also told Harper’s Bazaar UK that she told a friend “I’m going to marry that man. I knew from the second I met him that he was the love of my life.”
The pair got married in 2012, and went on to have two kids!
