Noah Cyrus returns to her Southern roots on her new album, I WANT MY LOVED ONES TO GO WITH ME, and she couldn’t have created it without help from several members of her family. Her emotional ballad, “Don’t Put It All on Me,” was written by her brother, Braison, and “With You” is one of the first songs her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, ever wrote. She got candid about the project and her personal life in a digital cover story for People, where she reacted to the alleged drama her family endured over the years.

“I keep myself quite separated from any interest or ‘drama’ with the family. The one thing that’s connected us with the entire world is music, and that’s what’s the most important to us,” Noah shared, referring to her musician siblings, Miley Cyrus, Trace Cyrus, and Brandy Cyrus.

The “July” singer noted, “Yeah, it emotionally is draining, but it doesn’t hurt us or touch us. It’s something that you really learn to keep separate and far away from yourself.”

She then gave an update on her family’s dynamic, as reports of several rifts have surfaced following Billy Ray’s split from Tish Cyrus back in 2022.

“Everybody’s great and loves each other,” she revealed. “I think when you grow up with that being normal—things being public—that it doesn’t quite reach you. At the end of the day, this is a family, and that’s really it: just going through normal family stuff.”

Noah’s revelation comes a few months after Miley opened up about her relationship with her parents and their new partners during a May interview with The New York Times The Interview podcast. During it, Miley admitted she felt like her “adult self has caught up” now that her mom is married to Dominic Purcell and Billy Ray is dating Elizabeth Hurley.

“My mom is like so in love with my stepdad Dom, who I also just completely adore. And now that my dad, I see him finding happiness outside of that too, I can love them both as individuals instead of as a kind of, you know, a parental pairing,” she shared.

The Grammy winner added that it was “hard” seeing her parents explore other romantic connections after their divorce, but she was taking it all in stride. As she explained it, “The little kid in you reacts before the adult in you and go, ‘Yes, that’s your dad, but that’s just another person that deserves to be in his bliss and be happy.’”
