In case you missed the latest royal housing drama, Kate Middleton and Prince William have abandoned plans to move to Fort Belvedere, and are instead moving to a swanky mansion called Forest Lodge—which has its very own ballroom.
There’s already drama due to the couple having to evict multiple families who live nearby (awkward), not to mention the fact that this is their “forever home.” Meaning… Prince William will not be moving to Buckingham Palace when he’s crowned King—a hugely divisive move that’s already ruffling feathers. (Note: King Charles also doesn’t live in Buckingham Palace, but his excuse is that he’s been under renovation.)
Sources tell Vanity Fair that Prince William and Kate Middleton are “mapping out a long-term plan to stay in Windsor” and are “future planning” for when they’re King and Queen. These insiders add that it’s “unlikely” the couple will ever live in London (though they do have an apartment in Kensington Palace), as they simply want a more “low key” residence. You know, one with a tennis court and ballroom.
Per one source, “It’s all in keeping with William not wanting to be a drain on the public purse and living as ordinary a life as he can, even when he is King.”
This comes amid another source telling the Daily Mail, “This is for the long term and it’s their intention to stay in Forest Lodge once he becomes king,” and another person-in-the-know adding “They want to continue to do the school run, even if they are king and queen.”
