Just a day after Kelly Clarkson announced that she had to cancel her Las Vegas residency due to a family emergency, her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock has died.
A representative for Brandon, a talent manager, confirmed the news in a statement on Thursday, August 7. “It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away,” the statement read. “Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family.” He was 48 years old.
Brandon was married to Kelly for seven years, from 2013 to 2020 (though the divorce wasn’t finalized until 2022). They shared two kids together, River Rose, 11, and Remy Alexander, 8. He was also a father to two children, Savannah and Seth Blackstock, from a previous relationship.

Kelly has not yet commented on the news herself, though she did release a statement yesterday hinting at her ex’s health problems when she announced she would have to postpone the rest of her Vegas residency shows. “While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them,” she said.
In addition to her Las Vegas shows, Kelly is currently hosting her hit daytime talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, and is gearing for another season as a coach on The Voice. It’s unclear how this will affect her work commitments going forward.
