Kenzie Ziegler’s new single, “tan lines,” is without a doubt a bop—but her promo for the song has fans asking a LOT of questions. The day before the new song dropped, the Dance Moms alum took to social media to share the behind-the-scenes video of herself seemingly getting tan lines tattooed on her body ahead of the single’s release…and no one can seem to figure out whether the ink is real or not.
In the video (which has already racked up over 10.5 million views on TikTok), you can see L.A.-based artist Christian Delacruz using stencils and white ink to etch faux bikini tan lines onto the singer’s shoulders and chest. “tattooing tan lines for my new single,” the text in the video reads, while in the caption, Kenzie simply tagged the tattoo artist. The IG comments are divided, to say the least.
“It’s obviously fake 😂 no one’s seriously falling for this?” wrote one fan, while another quipped, “A+ rage bait marketing 👏👏👏.”
However, others weren’t so convinced that the ink was fake. “Does it eventually go away?” one fan asked. From another commenter: “the internet has gone so far i genuinely can’t tell if this is a joke or rage bait.”
On TikTok, the comments section is just as chaotic, with many fans reacting with what seems like genuine concern. “Kenzie, my precious angel, please tell me you’re joking,” reads one comment, while another wrote, “PLS TELL ME THATS NOT PERMANENT 😭.”
One eagle-eyed commenter pointed out a major issue with the vid, saying, “the needle wasn’t actually hitting her skin…it’s not real.” Another seemingly exposed the truth: “it’s foundation divas.” Points were made!
Kenzie, for her part, hasn’t yet clarified whether the tattooed tan lines are fake or the real deal. But while the internet continues to debate, I’m going to go listen to “tan lines” again.
