When word got out that 22-year-old “Water” singer, Tyla, was going to be at the Grammy’s earlier last month, viewers (me) expected a hydrated skin moment on music’s biggest night, and she did not disappoint. Imagine my surprise when I realized she was using a body cream that has been on my vanity for the past month.

Tyla wore the $14 Vaseline Radiant X Body Cream, part of the Radiant X line introduced late last year that contains skincare ingredients like shea butter, coconut oil, vitamin C, and peptides. Tyla’s makeup artist put it to the test ahead of the Grammy’s red carpet, and did you see that glow!! Making me lose my breath (lol, had to). This bodycare moment paired with her full Pat McGrath makeup and a stunning green Versace gown was just *chef’s kiss*.

So many luxury body creams have been hitting the market lately. Almost too many, some may say (it’s me, I say). Looking at all these new releases, I find myself wondering if the actual ingredients of these creams warrant the price or if it is just a repackaged version of what I can get at the drugstore. Cue doom-scrolling on TikTok in the name of science!

I came across a video of a woman raving about a body cream from one of her favorite brands, but the only thing mentioned was the scent. Don’t get me wrong, I love a great-smelling body care product as much as anyone, but what about the results? Is it hydrating? What is the texture like? Is it greasy? That led me to a final question: Are we paying for better ingredients or just a better fragrance? Vaseline gave me the answer I was looking for with this line.

For $14, you are getting the same ingredients as some of the luxury body creams out there. Creams from Goop, Augustinus Bader, and L’Occitane highlight shea butter as one of their key ingredients, yet they range from $50-$190! Hey, it might not smell like a golden tropical floral rainforest, but trust me, your body won’t tell the difference.

As a social media manager, I try a lot of products, like, A LOT. So, when I run out of something I usually do not re-purchase because I more than likely have something else to test out — but not this time. This cream melts into my skin so gorgeously and keeps me hydrated for the entire day. Even after several hours of wear, my skin was still smooth and moisturized when usually I’d have dry spots by then. Safe to say I instantly fell in love and now I am on my second tub.
