The funniest women on television are back for a second season. HBO Max just dropped the first two episodes of the highly anticipated second season of Hacks. Almost one year to the day of the season 1 premiere, season 2 is already delighting fans and begging the question, “Will there be a season 3?”

Here is everything you need to know about Hacks season 3.

So is the third season of Hacks actually happening?

Hack was renewed back in June 2022 and production has already started on the hit series. However, filming was not completed before the SAG-AFTRA strike, so there’s still more that needs to be worked on before it comes back.

Okay, for those of us who don’t watch, what is Hacks about?

Season 1 followed flailing comedy writer Ava in her new gig as writer’s assistant to a groundbreaking, glass-ceiling-shattering, aging female comedian, Deborah Vance (inspired by Joan Rivers), who has fallen out of touch with younger audiences. Paired together by their shared agent, Ava and Deborah must work together to write a stand-up show that pleases both the boomers and the millennials. The two disagree on almost everything, from the purpose of comedy to cancel culture to feminism to fashion. In the end, they find common ground as women and as comedians and kick off a cross-country tour of new material, but not before a momentarily angry Ava pitches a nasty tell-all email to a pair of producers looking to make a show about a diva-type comedian not-so-subtly inspired by Deborah.

Enter season 2, which is teasing a bit more sweetness with the same searing comedy that sold us in its first season.

When will it come back?

At a special press presentation, HBO and MAX CEO and Chairman Casey Bloys revealed that Hacks is set to return in Spring 2024. However, when asked about the possibility of it moving or being split into parts since filming hasn’t been completed yet, he noted that, “Obviously, if it [SAG-AFTRA strike] continues, we’ve got plans. It would probably involve moving some things. There are some shows that I showed you that are available earlier than others. So we’ve got scenarios that we would employ. But I’m really, really hoping that we don’t have to.”
