Amazing news for The Summer I Turned Pretty stans everywhere: The show has officially been renewed for season 3! And it’s a well-deserved feat, since according to Amazon (per Deadline), season 2 is among the top 10 most-watched seasons of any series on the platform. Oh, and the season 2 premiere episodes reportedly doubled season 1’s viewership within three days of launching. Casual.
Obsessed with the show as much as we are? Wondering whether Tay and Steven are gonna be endgame?? Wanna know if more Taylor Swift songs are in store for us??? Here’s the 411 on all things The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3.
‘Kay, So What Exactly Has Been Said About TSITP Season 3 So Far? (Asking for a Friend)
Aside from the fact it’s definitely making a comeback (!), Deadline recently reported Jenny Han, aka the genius behind the series’ bestselling novels, is set to return yet again as the showrunner alongside writer and producer Sarah Kucserka.
And fans aren’t the only ones excited about the renewal. Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon and MGM Studios, dished to the outlet, “We’ve been delighted to see the passion with which fans have embraced The Summer I Turned Pretty, making Summer Fridays an entertainment phenomenon.”
“This charming, deeply heartfelt series has shown the breadth of our customer base, appealing to a young, diverse set of viewers. Jenny Han is a gifted storyteller, whose fans have been clamoring for the third chapter of this story. We’re excited today to share the news that they have a lot more Summer to look forward to. Thank you to Jenny, Sarah Kucserka, and Karen Rosenfelt and our friends at wiip for their remarkable work and partnership,” she added.
Honestly? Couldn’t have said it any better myself. 🤧
Will There Be Any Changes to Season 3?
Something tells us that Jenny will have something up her sleeve considering how many iconic additions there were in season 2. Case in point? The introduction of two new characters: Conrad and Jeremiah’s cousin Skye (Elsie Fisher) and their mother, Aunt Julia (Kyra Sedgwick).
Plus the author proved to be one of the most dedicated Swifties out there by surprising fans of the series with “Back to December (Taylor’s Version)” and a new take on Folklore’s “August” in a season 2 trailer—check it out below!
Last year, Jenny Han also opened up to E! News and dished it was her “number one dream” to have Taylor on the soundtrack for this season. “I was listening to Fearless, and I was like, ‘These songs have really helped me get to the finish line,’” the author explained at the time. “When I write books, I like to listen to music to help me see the emotional vein of the story, and her music really did that with me for the series.”
Mission = accomplished!
When Will The Summer I Turned Pretty Return?
Though we wish we had some better news to share, we can’t guarantee a timeline for season 3, which received the green light before the current WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Because actors and studios are currently in the midst of labor negotiations, production on next season will almost certainly not begin until they have been resolved. TL;DR: It remains unclear when audiences can expect Belly, Conrad, and Jeremiah to return to Cousins Beach again.
That said, there was about a year between the release of the first and second seasons, so fingers crossed!
