Kate Middleton has made a bunch of festive appearances this month, including stepping out for Royal Carols: Together At Christmas, as well as the royal family’s annual Christmas day walk. And we’re here to discuss her outfits, because apparently there’s a deeper meaning to her new color palette.
Royal fashion expert Amber Graafland tells The Sun that Kate’s decision to wear a sparkly cream fit from Self Portrait to promote Together At Christmas marks a huge departure from the norm, and is definitely intentional.
Oh, and Kate was seen wearing a bold blue on Christmas day in another break from the usual red and green:
“From December 1 onwards head-to-toe green and red are the Princess’s go-to looks; last year’s khaki Christmas Day outfit being the perfect case in point. A triumph of quintessential Britishness, her festive wardrobe is a winning combination of traditional hues and carefully chosen heritage prints.”
Here’s last year’s outfit, for reference:
And the vibes have previously been very much this:
According to Graafland, the decision to ditch red / green / tartan this year sends a “resounding message.” As she puts it, “It’s very much farewell to the tweeds, Barbour jackets, country life and patent shoes for Princess Kate, and ushering in a new laid back look. Cool, confident, self assured, she’s leaving the past behind and telling the nation, we are the royal family for the 21st century.”
Graafland also says Kate’s new look could be a sartorial indication that she’s starting a new slate, especially after alllll the royal drama in 2023.
I mean, here’s to hoping, I guess! *secretly lives for the drama*
