Now I don’t mean to tell you how to live your life, but all I’m saying is that if you don’t make an appointment with your braider to try this “Snake Stitch Braid” by the end of 2022, you are making the biggest hair mistake of your life. Okay fine, that may be a *tad* dramatic, but if you watch today’s episode of The Braid Up you’ll see what I’m talking about…this style deserves all the praise! This look is a structural masterpiece when it comes to protective styles, and I predict it will be a trending style in the months ahead. New York-based stylist Lesia Durant-King is the genius behind today’s “Snake Stitch Braid” and her methods really showed up and showed out. Just peep the flawless final look in the video below.

  1. Prep properly. ICYMI, a good wash and blow dry is a must before braiding begins. Use a moisture-rich and sulfate-free shampoo to cleanse without drying out your hair, follow with a nourishing conditioner, and don’t forget to use a heat protectant before you start blow drying.
  2. Remember, mousse is your friend. Patting a few dollops of a foaming mousse on your braids will help curb any frizz and give them great hold. Make it a must-do step in your daily routine and you’ll be impressed with the results—trust me.
  3. Tie it all down before bed. Another way to keep your braids looking sleek and fresh? Wrapping your hair with a silk headscarf or accessory (like the ones below) every night before you go to sleep. It’ll ensure your style stays intact for a full four to six weeks.
  4. Add some glow. You deserve to shine every day babe. So when your style is looking a little dull, spray some oil-based sheen spray onto your braids to bring them right back to fresh-from-the-salon status.
