The pair’s outing comes amid Sophie’s split from Joe Jonas, which lead to a huge number of outlets dropping “exclusive details” on why Joe filed for divorce. Most recently TMZ reported that Joe was “less than supportive” of Sophie following the birth of their second child, and that he pressured her into going out to events before she was ready—and despite her making it “clear she was uncomfortable and didn’t want to be there.”
The pair released a statement about their split on September 6th, writing “Statement from the two of us. After four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage. There are many speculative narratives as to why but, truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children.”
Meanwhile, Taylor dated Joe from July to October 2008, and Joe rudely ended things over the phone—which Taylor confirmed during a November 2008 appearance on Ellen, saying “When I find that person who is right for me, he’ll be wonderful, and when I look at that person, I’m not even gonna be able to remember the boy who broke up with me over the phone in 25 seconds when I was 18.”
Tay’s song “Forever and Always” is said to be about Joe, which includes lyrics like “Was I out of line? / Did I say something way too honest, made you run and hide / Like a scared little boy.”
