Sophie Turner has filed a lawsuit against Joe Jonas claiming that he’s illegally keeping their children in NYC and preventing them from returning with her to England. And according to court documents obtained by Entertainment Tonight, the former couples’ split happened very suddenly—after an argument in August.
“The breakdown of the parties’ marriage happened very suddenly,” the docs state, per ET. “The parties had an argument on Aug. 15, 2023. On or about Sept. 1, 2023, [Jonas] filed a divorce case against [Turner] in Florida. On or about Sept. 5, 2023, [Turner] found out through the media that [Jonas] had filed for divorce.”
One day after that on September 6, Joe and Sophie released a joint statement on Instagram saying in part, “After four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage. There are many speculative narratives as to why but, truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children.”
FYI, Joe’s rep has issued a statement in the wake of Sophie’s filing, saying that “This is an unfortunate legal disagreement about a marriage that is sadly ending. When language like ‘abduction’ is used, it is misleading at best, and a serious abuse of the legal system at worst. The children were not abducted.”
Joe’s rep also noted that “Joe has already disavowed any and all statements purportedly made on his behalf that were disparaging of Sophie. They were made without his approval and are not consistent with his views.”
