Amid news reports of Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas’ child custody case, the former couple released a statement on its current status following their four days of mediation last week. It marks Sophie and Joe’s first public comments since they confirmed their divorce. Joe and Sophie share two daughters, ages 3 and 1.
“After a productive and successful mediation, we have agreed that the children will spend time equally in loving homes in both the U.S. and the U.K.,” they said. “We look forward to being great co-parents.”
Their remarks come after court documents detailing their interim arrangement were released and obtained by People. Per the outlet, Sophie and Joe will take turns having their girls for two weeks at a time.
From October 9-21, Sophie will have custody and can travel with her daughters anywhere in the U.S. or England. Joe will then have the children from October 21-November 2 with the same travel permissions. Joe will be on tour with his brothers then, meaning his daughters will travel with him.
From November 2-22, Sophie will have the children, then Joe from November 22 to December 16. Sophie will have them for the holidays, from December 16 to January 6. Their agreement also states that by December 23, “the parties shall jointly submit a status report letter” on their mediation.
Joe and Sophie will hand their kids off to the other parent in New York City at the end of their custody periods.
While there has been much coverage of Joe and Sophie’s divorce case, the stars themselves have been almost silent about the matter.
Prior to their statement yesterday, Joe and Sophie jointly spoke out only one other time: When they confirmed their divorce on September 6, the day after Joe filed.
They said, “After four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage. There are many speculative narratives as to why but, truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children.”
