Things have been a little hectic for the royal family following Meghan Markle and Prince Harry stepping away from royal duties and the passing of the late Queen Elizabeth II (which meant new roles and responsibilities for working royals), but Prince William and Kate Middleton have seemingly taken it all with stride. An insider told Us this week that the royal couple is thriving right now.

“William and Kate are more in sync than ever,” the source spilled. “They cherish what they have with each other. For them, family comes first, and it always will.”

The insider did admit the loss of the Queen “hit them really hard. In many ways, it’s only now really sinking in that she’s gone.”

“They’re the first to admit it’s been a tough year,” they added. “But everyone agrees William and Kate have done a wonderful job staying strong in the face of such adversity.”

Despite everything they have gone through, Will and Kate seem even closer than before. “They’re in awe of each other,” the source said. “William tells anyone who will listen that he couldn’t do it without Kate, and she echoes that right back.”

Anyone who keeps up with the royal family knows that Kate and William have rarely been ones to partake in PDA, but William was photographed planting a smooch on her cheek after his winning polo match in July.

“William used to be quite awkward about showing too much affection,” the source said. “But Kate’s helped him relax.”

Since Queen Elizabeth’s passing, William’s father King Charles III bestowed the titles of Prince and Princess of Wales upon him and Kate, and the insider says the two are very pleased with their new roles and take their responsibilities seriously.

“They want to keep working with Charles and [Queen] Camilla and other members of The Firm to help lead the royal family into a more modern direction.”
