Secret Invasion is kicking off Phase 5’s Disney+ TV takeover, but it’s clear that it’s definitely going to be more than just a side story. The Fury-led series not only brings the former leader of S.H.I.E.L.D. back to Earth, but the Skrulls also have a huge plan in the midst that may change all of humanity more than anything Thanos originally had plan. With everyone in danger and no one to trust, it’s going to be Fury’s toughest mission yet.

The show’s first episode has already confirmed what kind of show this is going to be, especially with a big ending that is going to definitely divide fans and will have big consequences later on. But before we get to that, there’s also so much more that happened during the show’s first episode.

In present-day Moscow, Agent Everett Ross meets up with CIA Agent Prescod who tries to tell him that there are Skrulls hidden on Earth. He has a huge murder board filled with evidence that the aliens have been disguising themselves as humans and causing various terrorist attacks around the world in the hopes of causing a deadly world war.

Ross, who is supposed to be on the run after everything that went down in Black Panther 2 but somehow is still here, continues to hear his rant and decides that he will let Fury know about his theory, but that he will need something more to prove he’s right. Prescod shows him something and after Ross notes that he’ll show it to Fury, Prescod attacks him. In order to escape, Ross shoots Prescod and also asks Maria Hill for an escape route after noticing that he’s now being chased.

Maria soon meets up with Ross (who jumped off like a 10-story building) and finds out that the person who was going after him was Talos, one of the Skrulls that is working with Fury. However, Ross actually has been another Skrull this entire time and that leads us to the AI-generated opening sequence that could’ve totally been made by actual people.

Maria meets up with Fury when he returns from Earth and he soon reunites with Talos, who reveals that his wife has died and that Gravik has taken over the Council. After Fury and Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel disappeared during The Blip, Gravik used the Skrull’s anger at still not having a home to go against humans. Maria shows both Fury and Talos what Prescod was showing the fake Ross: a plan to create a dirty bomb to be used against Russia by Skrulls who would be disguised as Americans to try to start a war.

Upon hearing all of this, Fury decides to go on a walk but is taken by MI6 agents to Sonya Falsworth’s apartment where the two old friends reconnect. She rejects to help Fury in helping to take the Skrulls down, but after Fury plants a bug in her apartment, he discovers that they have the location of another Skrull who is working with them called Vasily Poprishchin.

Meanwhile, the Skrulls continue to expand their army who are taking on the identities of normal humans. They have also developed their own compound called New Skrullos where many of them live and work for the time being as they try to carry out their plan to take over Earth. One of them ends up being G’iah, Talos’ daughter who is working with Gravik and exchanges money for bombs.

Fury and Talos try to interrogate Poprishchin, but when nothing works and they start fighting, Fury kills him instead. In the meantime, Maria follows G’iah down but fails to stop her from escaping. Talos manages to catch up with her and discovers where his daughter has been up to. G’iah also finds out that her mother died and asks Talos how she died. He says, “Why don’t you ask the people you work for?” hinting that Gravik was the one behind it. After hearing the news, she runs away and finds a spot to mourn over the news.

At a bar later that night, Maria and Fury have a heart-to-heart where she tells him that he had changed a lot after the Blip and that he isn’t ready for the fight that is about to happen.

Back at New Skrullos, G’iah tries to convince Gravik to postpone the attack but is unsuccessful. She meets up with her father to warn him about Gravik’s plan. The team plan to take them down before its too late, however, they are tricked with decoys before Gravik sets them off.

In the chaos, Maria tries to meet up with Fury who surprisingly shoots her. The real Fury sees his other self and tries to attack him, but then goes to Fury. Maria says “It was you,” to him and he is soon rushed away from the scene while Maria dies.
