Margot Robbie and her husband Tom Ackerley have a notoriously chill relationship, with limited social media presence, few red carpet appearances, and fewer public comments about each other. Basically, they’re giving the complete opposite of Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker. But if you dig a little deeper (read: go on a nerdy deep dive into their relationship), you’ll realize everyone’s been sleeping on one of the cutest duos in the industry. On that note, here’s a full timeline of Margot and Tom’s relationship—right in time for the premiere of Barbie, which they both produced (it’s called being a power couple).
~2013
Margot—right on the brink of being on the A++ list—gets cast in Suite Française, which Tom happens to be working on as the third assistant to the director. Margot immediately becomes tight with the crew—to the point where they all decide to start living together. As she later put it to The Guardian, “We were like, ‘Wouldn’t it be funny if we all lived together?’ Someone said, ‘But you don’t live in London,’ and I said, ‘I don’t live anywhere. I’ll move.’ Three days later, we signed a lease in Clapham.”
Around this time, her friendship with Tom pivoted to ~romance~.
~2014
Margot and Tom cofound LuckyChap Entertainment alongside their friends Josey McNamara and Sophia Kerr. And not only is the company responsible for Margot’s 2017 film I, Tonya, but they also produced Barbie. Meaning, yes, Margot *and* Tom worked on the movie together.
Meanwhile in November 2014, Margot and Tom are spotted together for the first time looking so adorable, I genuinely can’t handle it:
Just….
I scream.

Hello to this photo only:
May 2016
After several years of saying pretty much nothing about her relationship status, Margot opens up to
Again, not to be dramatic, but:
July 2016
Margot tells the Daily Telegraph (via Bustle) that she and Tom never spend more than a few weeks apart—even when she’s busy filming overseas.
“The most helpful thing I’ve learned from other couples in this industry is that you don’t go more than three weeks without seeing each other,” she says. “Being in a long-distance relationship can be really hard when you don’t see the light at the end of the tunnel. It can mess with your head, so the three-week rule is key.”
August 2016
Margot and Tom are spotted in Japan:
December 2016
Margot and Tom get married! Which is kinda an unexpected life event for Margot, who later tells Porter, ‘I always thought, ‘Urrgghhhh, being married sounds really boring.’ I thought I might bite the bullet in my late 30s and see how it goes.”
The couple ends up filming I, Tonya right after their wedding instead of going on honeymoon, but they do eventually manage to fit in a trip to Tahiti.
January 2017
No celebrity relationship timeline would be complete without an obligatory spotting at LAX.
November 2017
Tom posts a photo of him and Margot chilling with their friends, who seem like a delightfully normal bunch, TBH!
January 2018
Margot and Tom go snowboarding and discover their reflections in a helmet. Thrilling times!
They also casually attend the 2018 Golden Globe Awards:
February 2018
Tom posts another cute picture of himself and Margot on Instagram, and everyone realizes they should be following this man:
March 2018
Margot and Tom hit up the Vanity Fair Oscar Party. Pretty sure if a body language expert analyzed this photo, they’d have no notes.
November 2018
Margot tells Porter, “I’m a great advocate of doing business with your partner. Being married is actually the most fun ever—life got way more fun somehow. I have a responsibility being someone’s wife. I want to be better.”
Once again, I:
January 2020
The romantic vibes continue at the 2020 Golden Globes. Cheek! To! Cheek!

November 2023
Tom accompanies Margot to a few fancy events this month, so let’s go through them together, shall we?
First, they hit the Saltburn premiere in LA and posed alongside one of the film’s producers, Josey McNamara. ICYMI, Margot produced the fan-favorite flick directed by Emerald Fennell. In other words: thank you, Margot, for greenlighting that Jacob Elordi bathtub scene.
A few days later, Tom was Margot’s +1 at Variety‘s Power of Women event in LA.
Then, they spoke on a panel for a special screening of Barbie in Burbank with director Greta Gerwig and cast members like America Ferrera.
Tom posed with Margot at the Gotham Awards in New York, and the couple was spotted strolling in Midtown Manhattan the next day.
December 2023
After an eventful November, Margot and Tom kept things relatively more chill but still showed face at a special Barbie party with some cast and crew members.
January 2024
A new year means it’s time for awards season, and of course, Tom and Margot hit some major red carpets. Ahem, feast your eyes on pics from…
…The Palm Springs International Film Awards:
The Golden Globes:
The AFI Awards:
and the Critics Choice Awards, where Margot opened up about her appreciation for Tom:
During an interview with E! News at the Critics Choice Awards on January 14, Margot gushed about Tom when she was asked about the benefits of having a “normie” husband.
“I am so lucky,” she said. “He likes being behind the camera. He’s not fazed by any of this stuff.”
“He’s just the best, it’s so fun,” Margot continued. “I love the word ‘normie.’ All my friends, everyone’s like, ‘That’s cool, what you do, but it’s more fun just to hang out and talk about other stuff.’ And you’re like, ‘I know.'”
Aaaand that’s all for rn! We’ll keep you posted when Barbie and her real-life Ken are up to more adorable things down the line. 💖
