If we can glean one thing from Katie Holmes’s winter wardrobe, it’s that she loves a chic long coat.

On Wednesday, the Dawson’s Creek alum made yet another sophisticated street-style appearance in New York City, where she looked casually cool in an all-black outfit.

Her low-key monochromatic ensemble consisted of a long double-breasted coat, with a clean, tailored fit and sharp lapels. Katie layered the statement outerwear over a black turtleneck top and black straight-leg jeans. For footwear, she relied on a classic pair of black leather loafers.

To accessorize over the minimalist base, Katie wore amber-tinted retro sunglasses, layers of gold chain necklaces, and a large black leather tote bag.

Katie’s wintry affinity for long coats is well documented.

During another New York City street-style run late last month, she wowed in a long speckled gray coat from French fashion house Patou. She styled the coat similarly, wearing another black turtleneck tucked into a pair of pleated high-rise and wide-leg jeans in a dark blue wash from Another Tomorrow. To cap off the look, she added a bright red half-moon bag on a crossbody strap (also from Patou) and glossy black leather pointed-toe boots.

The actor talked to Bazaar last year about her philosophy when it comes to dressing up. “We live in a world where we have a premiere and you want to look nice, and it turns into being a fashion person, and I’m like, ‘Well, I just like to look nice, I’m not really a fashion person.’ We all just want to look good,” she said.
