preview for What Kate Middleton Wears to Weddings

Kate Middleton and Prince William dropped their annual Christmas card a few days ago—a family portrait featuring their three kids that is best described as “royal JC Penny.” And while everyone looked extremely chic and only slightly like they’d stepped out of a holiday card from 1995, the internet immediately zeroed in on some alleged photoshop fails.

Basically, people are convinced that Prince Louis is missing a finger in this image and some people think there are extra legs (which…no?).

And while William and Kate haven’t said anything about the image, a source tells Us Weekly they’re both “embarrassed” that everyone thinks it was edited, and that they “were as shocked as everyone else” by the public’s reaction.

Meanwhile, body language analysts have been busy interpreting the photo, and expert Judi James tells The Sun that “The strong sense of tight, loving ‘uniformed’ grouping and the stark monochrome, plus the relaxed and confident body language looks like the emotional equivalent of them having a moat and drawbridge around them.”

Judi also notes that Prince William’s head tilt “suggests a desire to be liked,” while “Kate leans into William’s torso to make this a subtly romantic pose too.” Meanwhile, “Charlotte looks so much like the late Queen and this central status-rich pose and beautiful smile are like echoes of Elizabeth when she was young. This effect doesn’t look deliberate but it is still a rather moving message from this family Christmas card.”

At least there’s that!
