Jennifer Lopez is gearing up to drop the album and film for This Is Me…Now on February 16, and apparently she’ll be giving fans a close look at her relationship with Ben Affleck.
Speaking to Variety, J.Lo admitted that some people in her circle weren’t supportive of her spotlighting their private life, but explained that “As artists, we have to follow our heart and this is me following my heart and doing something that maybe everybody didn’t think was the best idea, but I had to do it.”
J.Lo went on to explain that she and Ben “both have PTSD” over the media storm surrounding their relationship in the early aughts, but added “We’re older now. We’re wiser. We also know what’s important, what’s really important in life, and it’s not so much what other people think. It’s about being true to who you are.”
You can get a full run-down of Bennifer’s relationship history this way, but quick recap: they dated between 2001 and 2003, and were this close to getting married before calling the wedding off in a joint statement citing “excessive media attention.”
“Due to the excessive media attention surrounding our wedding, we have decided to postpone the date. When we found ourselves seriously contemplating hiring three separate ‘decoy brides’ at three different locations, we realized that something was awry. We began to feel that the spirit of what should have been the happiest day of our lives could be compromised. We felt what should have been a joyful and sacred day could be spoiled for us, our families, and our friends.”
This was in September 2003, and by January 2004 the couple had split. But obviously they got back together in 2021 and the rest! is! history!
