Gerry Turner is back on the market, and things started off strong during the season premiere of ABC’s The Golden Bachelor. He granted 16 ladies a rose in the first week of the competition, narrowing down his search for a new lover. In the show’s second episode though, #BachelorNation was surprised that Marina, a Los Angeles-based educator, was nowhere to be seen despite receiving one of Gerry’s roses.

If you’re wondering where Marina might have gone, it turns out that she had to make a sudden exit from the show because of an “urgent family matter.”

In a video posted to The Golden Bachelor‘s social channels, host Jesse Palmer broke the news to Gerry by pulling Marina up on a FaceTime call.

“Marina’s had a situation with her family back home. She’s no longer here now, but she did want the opportunity to speak to you if that’s okay,” Jesse told Gerry in the clip, which wasn’t originally featured in the latest episode.

Marina then explained why she had to leave the show prematurely. “The thing I wanted to tell you, I’m a single mom, and I had to choose my family and support my family’s needs at this time,” she said. “I am sorry that I had to leave, but at the same time I had to get my priorities straight.”

Gerry took the news well and wished Marina the best while respecting her wishes to be there for her family. “I fully understand commitment to family overrides just about everything else. I really respect you for doing what you’ve done,” Gerry told Marina. “I agree with you 100 percent that you need to put your family needs before everything else.”

“I think I needed to hear that,” Marina added. “I wanna wish you well. I think there are some beautiful women with beautiful souls. I want to wish you nothing but my best from my heart.”

Okay, we love a girls’ girl! *Major* shouts to Marina for spreading good vibes while she’s prioritizing her family’s needs. We’ll miss her on our screens, but hope everything goes smoothly with her fam.
