Tracy Deonn is opening the vault. For the first time, the author is revealing everything we need to know about the future of The Legendborn Cycle, a series that has kept fans on their toes ever since they met Bree and followed her on her magical journey. But now that stakes are higher than ever and readers have been begging to know what is happening next, especially with details about what is going to come next kept under wraps.

Cosmopolitan has your official first look at what is coming up next in The Legendborn Cycle which is continuing on with the third book, Oathbound. Fans have been wondering when the next book would be released and they’ll get a chance to pick it up in early 2025. But you won’t actually have to wait that long to get a sneak peek at the third book in the series.

Bloodmarked, the second book in the series, will be released in paperback on February 6, 2024 and will not only include a teaser of the third book, but also bonus content from William’s perspective. More details, like Oathbound‘s official cover, will be revealed at a later date.

Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers

Oh, and one more thing: Oathbound isn’t the end. Tracy’s new deal with Simon & Schuster includes not just one book, but two! A fourth book in The Legendborn Cycle is also on its way, with official timing to be announced.

But before you run to re-read the first two books or pre-order the paperback edition of Bloodmarked to read what’s coming up next, check out this exclusive interview with Tracy where she looks back on her journey so far and gives us some extra hints about what we can expect next.

This fandom has been huge! How has it been seeing their reactions?

The Legendborn Cycle fandom is simply unmatched! I am constantly stunned by how much of themselves the readers bring to the fandom. I’ve seen cosplay, fanart, tattoos, make-up looks, essays, and fan videos of every kind. Even a Legendborn Cycle themed birthday party! I’m honored by all of the creativity and passion, and I don’t take any of it for granted.

What has the response meant to you?

The readers are part of the journey. I am a lifelong fangirl myself so I recognize that deep love for your favorite characters and worlds, but growing up I never saw this level of devotion to a fantasy series led by a Black girl or woman. It honestly means everything to me that people love Bree and her story, and I feel emboldened and empowered to push everything higher in the next books.

Anything you’re dying to share about Oathbound?

Oh, there’s tons I’m dying to share! If you’ve read Bloodmarked, then you know that Bree makes some big decisions that create ripple effects for every single character we know, leaving the Legendborn members fractured. Oathbound wrestles with the consequences of oaths, promises, and bargains. I can’t say too much more, but the Bloodmarked paperback will include an extended teaser chapter of Oathbound for readers to devour!

How would you describe Oathbound in a few words?

What are you willing to sacrifice?

What are you most excited for with Books 3 and 4?

I’m really excited about being able to plan both books simultaneously! Once we knew there would be four books, I was able to take a wide view of every character arc, plot, and theme. Now I get to explore all of the relationship nuances (yes, including the romantic ones!) that the first two books set up, which is extremely satisfying. Ultimately, I have a lot of things to say and do with these books and I’m so thrilled that I don’t have to rush–I get to say and do it all.

Oathbound, by Tracy Deonn, will be released in 2025.
