Clear your schedule and stock your mead supply because The Witcher was renewed for season 3 before season 2 even hit Netflix. So even though we are already far done with the show’s second season, at least we can expect more from Gerald and the crew in the near future. While we’re crossing our fingers for news about even more seasons, we still have a lot to look forward to with the show’s upcoming third season. So what is going to happen?
Here’s everything you need to know about The Witcher season 3.
Will this be the last season?
As for more Witcher, can you blame the folks at Netflix? Insert joke about the “law of surprise” here, because I’m not surprised. The show was so popular when season 1 hit and is sure to make a splash with season 2. There are so many books (six, in fact) as well as a trilogy of video games and graphic novels to adapt new seasons from.

Do we know what season 3 will be about?
While we don’t know exactly what the new season will be about, the books should give us a bit of a clue as to what to expect.
But wait—there’s more! An animated film in the Witcher universe called Nightmare of the Wolf dropped on the streaming service in 2021. It stars Theo James (Divergent, Sanditon), Laura Pulver (Sherlock), and Graham McTavish (Outlander), NBD. According to Variety, this film leads up to the events in the Conjunction of the Spheres—and if that confuses you, you are not alone. I’m pretty good at following fantasy jargon, but The Witcher really lost me there a couple of times. I didn’t even realize there were multiple timelines when I was watching for the first time. It’s a good thing everyone is so easy on the eyes. The Conjunction of the Spheres is an event in the fantasy universe that happened way in the past and resulted in magic spreading through the land.
There’s also going to be a prequel/spin-off series called The Witcher: Blood Origin. Netflix is really committed to expanding the world. It’s looking at making some more family-friendly shows in the Witcher-verse too. I would expect all things Witcher to be around for a long, long time.
But why imagine what is going to happen when you can watch a special clip? Netflix unveiled a first-look at their 2023 TUDUM event that features our favorite trio in a fierce battle and it’s just what we needed.

The second season was one of many television productions that halted during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and resumed under restrictions and precautions. One can only imagine that it will be smoother sailing this time around and we won’t have to wait so long for more.
And it looks like things are going well, as Netflix revealed during Tudum that the series will officially be back in summer 2023. Better save some coins until then.

And then after hearing us begging for a release date, Netflix finally revealed it with a special teaser trailer that also gives us a glimpse into Henry Cavill’s final season in the role. Oh, and there’s a twist! The show is pulling a Stranger Things and releasing season 3 in two “volumes”. Volume 1 is out on June 29, while volume 2 is set for July 27.

Are there any new characters coming?
Expect to see at least four new faces as the cast grows for season 3. Robbie Amell (Legends of Tomorrow), Meng’er Zhang (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Hugh Skinner (Fleabag), and Christelle Elwin are all joining, Netflix announced via Twitter.

Luckily for all of us, it also gave us a bit about each of their characters: Gallatin, Milva, Prince Radovid, and Mistle.

A human adopted by the dryads of Brokilon Forest, Milva is a fierce and talented huntress. Exact archery skills coupled with a stone-cold aptitude for survival make her a formidable adversary in the unforgiving Continent – those that cross her, do so at their peril. pic.twitter.com/uaBbr94SSH

Mistle is a member of The Rats, a gang of misfit teenagers who steal from the rich and give to themselves – and sometimes the poor. She is street hard, suspicious of everyone and out for revenge, until a chance meeting that will change everything. pic.twitter.com/ii1gxWXkAF

Looks like things just got a lot more interesting for season 3, and we can’t wait to watch.
