Demi Lovato and Canadian musician Jordan Lutes are officially engaged! The singer’s rep confirmed the news to People, saying that Jordan popped the question in a “personal and intimate proposal” on Saturday (December 16) with a pear-shaped diamond. The couple then celebrated with family at a L.A. restaurant.

OBVIOUSLY, the time has come to get to know everything there is to know about Jordan—a Toronto-based punk and rap artist who–yep—collaborated with Demi on “Substance.”

“One of my fav songs I’ve ever worked on,” Jordan wrote in an Instagram caption while celebrating the song’s release. “When I got asked to pull up and write for this session I remember thinking wtf am I supposed to do in a Demi Lovato session? Only to show up and realize she was making one of the hardest rock projects I’ve ever heard. Obviously a crazy milestone for me but beyond that I feel so blessed to be a part of something I’m such a big fan of. Cheers to the whole gang 🖤.”

Let’s learn more about Demi’s new fiancé, shall we?

Jordan’s stage name is Jutes

He mainly goes by the stage name Jutes. Although he was initially signed with Capital Records, he ultimately left to pursue a career as an independent artist, per a 2021 interview with the Nuance Magazine. “You hear about labels shelving people or holding them without pushing them so often, and I can’t say how grateful I am that isn’t me,” he told the outlet. “I had been wishing I could be indie again for a while just because I love being totally in charge of my own career, so it worked out quite nicely.” The indie performer began releasing albums in 2020, including Overrated and A Really Bad Dream.

He’s extremely talented

Jordan told the Nuance Magazine that he eventually wants to expand his career through shows and/or acting. “I draw as well and want to make my own animated show with my homie from Toronto who I met in film school,” he revealed. “Would love to act eventually as well.” *le sigh* A man of the arts!

He’s collaborated with Demi before

Love this friends-to-lovers pipeline, tbh! Both Jordan and Demi collaborated on her upcoming album Holy Fvck, and needless to say, the punk artist is *beyond* supportive of his partner. “Sheeeesh best voice in the game, by a lot. U killed it rock star @ddlovato. ‘Substance’ on @jimmyfallon last night. Grateful to be a part of this one. ✍️🖤 P.S. Ur fucking hot,” is the caption on an Insta vid he posted just yesterday of the Camp Rock alum singing her new song “Substance,” which he cowrote. Well, you know what they say! The couple who collabs together stays together. 😭❤️

He’s on a sobriety journey

In July 2022, Jordan reflected on maintaining sobriety after reaching an impressive milestone.

“Today marks 100 days sober and despite the Covid I’ve never felt better mentally and emotionally,” he wrote via Instagram at the time. Demi commented on the post and responded with, “100 days is such an accomplishment…I’m so proud 🙏🏼🖤,” along with a cheeky retort that maybe the rapper should “lay off the CBD cigs till the Covid passes” since the post was accompanied by the announcement that Jordan unfortunately caught the virus.

Demi, for their part, has been very open about their own experience with sobriety. In December 2021, she even shared the following on her Instagram Story, per Page Six: “I no longer support my ‘California sober’ ways.…Sober sober is the only way to be.”

They Were Friends First

Demi opened up on The Morning Mash Up in July about dating Jordan, saying “We became friends first. We were friends for several months and then we decided to start dating and well, after we told each other how we felt.”

And speaking of feelings, this post is too sweet:

Aaaaand that’s pretty much all we know about Jordan now! But stay tuned for more developments on these lovebirds. ❤️❤️❤️
