Wimbledon is happening at the moment, and if that means literally nothing to you, then just know it’s England’s extremely posh tennis tournament that the royal family simply can’t get enough of. Aside from the Royal Ascot (which is basically an excuse to wear giant hats), Wimbledon is the preferred sporting event of Queen Elizabeth II and her inner circle. They show up every damn year, and lately Kate Middleton has stepped into a starring role as patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club—which means she gets to wear a fancy little bow to the matches.
Thanks to being a fan and a patron, Kate shows up to multiple matches per tournament—usually with her husband Prince William, though she’s also been known to attend with her sister Pippa Middleton, and her sister-in-law Meghan Markle (they went twice together before Meghan moved to California with Prince Harry). And while most people attend Wimbledon to, like, watch tennis and whatnot, watching celebrities is also an official sporting event—especially when the celebs are also royals. And since Kate knows she has a super big spotlight on her at Wimbledon, she 100 percent dresses for the occasion.
Check out all the Wimbledon outfits Kate has worn over the years—including from back in the day when she was showing up at Wimbledon on the DL as Prince William’s girlfriend instead of the literal future Queen (consort) of England.

Back when she was simply Prince William’s girlfriend and we weren’t obsessing over every item in her closet (except, we were).

About two years before Kate and Wills got engaged, she showed up at Wimbledon wearing a cardigan over her dress in true mid-aughts style.

Kate and William’s first match as a married couple! This is also when she really started leaning into her Wimbledon looks. You can’t see much of her dress here, but Kate’s wearing Temperley London. Meanwhile, William seems to be wearing his own personal James Bond fantasies!

Obsessed with Kate’s knitted sailor dress, which is from Alexander McQueen (the designer of her wedding gown).

The way I would spill ketchup, mustard, and frankly an entire hot dog on this all-white look…

Does it look like the interior of a hotel lobby in 1995? Yes. Would I still wear it if Kate told me to? Also yes.

Red! Is! Her! Color! (Also this dress is by LK Bennett in case you were wondering for future purchase purposes.)

The year was 2016, so naturally Kate was in her color-blocking era.

Kate loves herself some polka dots, and this is farrrrr from the only time she wore the print to Wimbledon, so stay tuned.

Jaunty sailor Kate is my favorite Kate.

Kate and Meghan’s second Wimbledon! Things were a little tense during this time—but you wouldn’t know it based on this picture.

Who cares about the dress, Kate’s hair is amazing.

After taking a break during 2020 due to obvious pandemic-related reasons, Kate made her triumphant return to Wimbledon wearing what else but polka dots.

The only other person who can pull off this color is Kermit.

Kate capped off her time at the Wimbledon in 2021 with a baby pink belted dress from Beulah London—with a matching pink mask.
