Kay, so obviously Dakota Johnson is *rich*, but you are simply not prepared for how rich. Turns out Dakota earned a ton of money for Fifty Shades of Grey (after a pretty “small” starting salary for the movie), and now her net worth is best described as bigger than a giant bowl of random limes sitting on a kitchen counter. Let’s break it down.

Dakota’s Fifty Shades of Grey Salary Got a Huge Bump

Despite all the hype surrounding the first film, Dakota reportedly took home $250,000 for Fifty Shades of Grey. Which is obviously a lot of money in the world of, well, normal people—but it’s a pretty small salary for an A-list star. (By comparison, Jennifer Lawrence made $25 million for her role in Don’t Look Up.)

But! Fifty Shades ended up being a major blockbuster, and Dakota was able to negotiate a major raise as a result. Celebrity Net Worth reports she earned a seven-figure salary (read: more than a million dollars) for the next two movies in the franchise. Makes sense, since Fifty Shades raked in $570 million at the box office, making Dakota one of the top-grossing actors of 2015, according to Forbes.

Also, fun fact before we move on to her 🤤🤤🤤 real estate: Dakota took the role of Ana because of Emily Blunt’s advice, telling the Hollywood Reporter, “I couldn’t talk about it to anybody. Nobody in my family knew. I was cast [and] I remember I spoke to Emily Blunt and I was like, ‘Should I do this trilogy? Because I want to have a really special career, and I want to make a certain kind of film…and I know that this is going to change things.’ She was like, ‘Fucking do it if it feels right. Just do it. Always do what you want to do.’”

Her Gorge Home Is Worth Millions

Um, has anyone watched Dakota’s home tour with Architectural Digest? Because I want everything she owns, including the house and minus the bowl of limes. Dakota reportedly purchased her house for $3.55 million, so if all else fails, she can sell it and still be a millionaire, no bigs.

Let’s Discuss Her Endorsements, Thx

So when it comes to endorsements, Dakota does things like an old-school celeb. By which I mean she doesn’t do sponcon on social media (which can be super lucrative when you’re as famous as she is) and instead works with major luxury brands on print and television campaigns. Like, why sell vitamin gummies on Insta when you can sell Gucci on TV, ya know?

She Started Her Own Production Company

It’s called TeaTime Pictures, and they announced last year that they’re turning a novel called The End of Getting Lost into a movie with Margaret Qualley and Paul Mescal in collaboration with Amazon, so it sounds like they are pretty successful!

So, What Is Dakota Johnson’s Total Net Worth?

Celebrity Net Worth reports that Dakota has a net worth of $14 million, and if you think she got part of that from her famous family (her parents are Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson, JFYI), you’d be wrong! In fact, Don revealed that he fully cut off his daughter once she went into acting, telling Late Night With Seth Meyers, “We have a rule in the family that, you know, if you stay in school, you get to stay on the payroll…so you go to college, you get to stay on the payroll. Toward the end of high school, I went to her and I said, ‘So do you want to go visit some colleges?’ And she was like, ‘Oh, no. I’m not going to college, no way.’ I went, ‘Okay, you know what that means? You won’t be on the payroll anymore.’”

Apparently, three weeks later, Dakota landed a role in The Social Network, so clearly she made the right choice! (But also, stay in school, kids, LOL.)
