And Just Like That…Samantha Jones Will Reunite With the ‘Sex and the City’ Crew

Sex and the City’s revival, And Just Like That…, is well into season 2, which means that yes: We finally know the full extent of what happened to Samantha. As anyone with a fledgling interest in Sex and the City knows, Kim Cattrall isn’t in And Just Like That…, and fans have been wondering how the show would explain Samantha’s absence among the core four.

Turns out, And Just Like That… season 1 explains Samantha moved to London after a fight with Carrie. We discover this almost immediately when Bitsy von Muffling asks Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte where Samantha is, and it’s revealed she’s living in the U.K.

Later in the episode, Miranda notes, “You know, it is kind of like she’s dead, Samantha. We never even talk about her,” to which Carrie replies, “Well, what is there to say? I told her that because of, you know, what the book business is now, it just didn’t make sense for me to keep her on as a publicist. She said ‘fine’ and then fired me as a friend.”

Carrie says Samantha stopped returning her calls and voicemails (actually, she hasn’t been in touch with anybody), saying, “Look, I understand that she was upset, but I thought I was more to her than an ATM.”

Samantha is brought up again in season 1 episode 2—after the sudden death of Mr. Big. At the funeral, Carrie sees that she’s been sent flowers with a note simply saying, “Love, Samantha.” Throughout the season, they then exchange a few texts that make it seem like they’re on their way to a reconciliation. It’s like Carrie is sending little olive branches via iMessage and hoping Samantha responds.

In the season 1 finale, we finally get a resolution of sorts. Carrie goes to Paris to spread Big’s ashes from “their” bridge. Because Carrie is in Paris (which is obviously not far from London), she texts Samantha and asks if she wants to get a drink. Samantha responds and says, “How about tomorrow?” So even though Kim herself didn’t show up during the entire season, the fictional Carrie and Samantha seem to have reconciled. And it left the door open in case Kim does eventually want to work with these women again….which, according to a new report from Variety, she DOES!

We knew Samantha Jones would never let her fans down. Variety confirms Kim recently filmed a secret cameo on the DL. (And it was so *hush hush* that her name did not even appear on the call sheet.) Those who worked on set were apparently shocked because everyone (and their mother) knows Kim wasn’t exactly interested in the reboot.

Pulling up to set in an SUV with blackened windows so no prying eyes would notice her, Kim Cattrell allegedly filmed her top secret cameo back in the spring in a town car in a parking garage near Silvercup Studios. According to Variety, Kim will only appear in one scene and did not have to see or speak to her co-stars while doing it.

While there aren’t other details of Samantha’s return just yet, and there’s also no confirmation yet about a possible season 3 of And Just Like That…, it’s absolutely glorious that we get a taste of the character we’ve been *dying* to see on our screens again.
