To say we basically have a PhD in All Things Reneé Rapp™️ is a serious understatement. From her Mean Girls days on Broadway to her TikTok fame and iconic role on The Sex Lives of College Girls, Reneé has had us obsessing over every single thing she’s ever done (yes, we could listen to her vocal runs for hours, and, no, we’re not ashamed about it).

So of course, when she seemingly hard launched her relationship on Oscars night at Vanity Fair‘s forever iconic after-party, we almost instantly spiraled over the fellow musician by her side. Enter: Towa Bird, who has a buncha connections to Reneé. 👀

Here’s everything you need to know about Towa! Starting with the fact that…

She’s a musician

Towa initially began her music career on TikTok, and it didn’t take long for her videos and covers to go full-on viral during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Thanks to her mind-blowing talent, it was no wonder why Olivia Rodrigo, who discovered her on social media, asked the musician to be a part of her Disney+ documentary, Driving Home 2 U (A Sour Film).

And the rest is history! After her appearance in the film, Towa was signed to Interscope Records (which btw is the same label as Olivia *and* Reneé) and immediately began making hits.

“I went from making songs in my room in London to landing in L.A. and being on this massive production. I was like, ‘Wow: this is what life could be like for me,’” the musician said during a November 2023 interview with NME.

Btw, Towa has currently released six singles—including her latest, “B.I.L.L.S”—, all of which are leading up to her highly-anticipated debut album, American Hero. As the celeb put it in an interview with People, her music is kinda like “if ’70s classic rock and ’90s Brit-pop had a baby, and the baby was queer, Asian, and a woman.”

…Which might be how she wound up meeting Renee

Yep, from September 2023 to March 2024, Towa performed as the opening act for the U.S. and European leg of Reneé’s Snow Hard Feelings Tour, which kicked off in Houston and wrapped up overseas in Dublin.

“Opening for Reneé Rapp this autumn makes me very proud. I’m honored to be able to perform for her audience,” Towa gushed in that same People convo ahead of the tour.

And while she was in the midst of the concert series in November 2023, she spoke with EUPHORIA. about being on the road with the Broadway star and other fellow opening acts: “I learned so much from them every day, in a real way. Reneé is so authentically herself. The persona doesn’t change…when she talks to me, she talks to me in the same way she addresses her fans.”

However, the two continued to perform together even outside of the tour, which is beyond 🥺❤️. Case in point? On November 1, 2023, Reneé appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers and sang her hit “Tummy Hurts” alongside Towa, who was on the guitar.

She was born in Hong Kong

Towa was born in China to British and Filipino parents and opened up about her childhood and family dynamic (her parents and sister still live in Hong Kong) with UCLA Radio back in October 2023: “I’m Filipino so like, what has always been really important to my family and growing up is like, a sense of community—whether that be through like, friends or family.”

Despite being far away from her family, the musician maintained that she’s thankful for the moments she’s able to speak with them: “My family lives in Hong Kong and my sister lives with them, and so we’re all kind of, like, spread out. So whenever I do get the chance to, like, talk to them and catch up with them I’m very grateful for that.”

And because she’s ~worldly~, Towa also lived in Thailand for some time before moving to London to attend Goldsmiths College at the University of London, where she pursued a degree until dropping out two years later and committing to her music career. I-con-ic!

She almost didn’t pursue music

During a May 2023 interview with ESPN, the guitarist revealed that much of her early life “primarily centered around sports” and that she was even considering “professionally” pursuing an athletic career. “As a 10 year old, you probably don’t have the best read on what your life is going to become. And then my life did a full 180. I noodled around when I was young but at 12 my focus shifted and I started playing guitar,” she added.

Honestly? Thank goodness for that!!

They just made their red carpet debut!

On Sunday, March 10, the world low-key stopped when the musicians seemingly went public with their relationship after posing together on the red carpet at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party.

The mag itself added fuel to the rumor fire after posting a TikTok captioned, “Reneé Rapp and Towa Bird make their red-carpet debut as a couple.”

Oh, and btw, the two were also photographed together inside the event holding drinks with their arms around each other.

Aaaaaand that’s pretty much all we know for now! But hopefully, we can hear confirmation of the romance straight from these two sometime soon!
