Sharpen your pencils, little Einsteins. Abbott Elementary has been renewed for season 3, which means we’re in for another year of gut-busting laughs courtesy of Principal Ava, slays from Barbara and Melissa, and will they/won’t they tension from Janine and Gregory.
It’s so nice that everyone is talking about and loving a regular old sitcom again. Not everything we watch on television has to have complicated mysteries to solve like The White Lotus, Severance, and Yellowjackets or fantasy lore to learn like House of the Dragon, Andor, and Stranger Things or be as heavy as The Last of Us. It’s low-key ironic that a show about teachers doesn’t feel like homework! And it helps that Abbott Elementary is a top-notch network comedy, even earning a fleet of 2023 Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Comedy Series and individual acting noms for Quinta Brunson, Tyler James Williams, Janelle James, Sheryl Lee Ralph, and season 2 guest star Taraji P. Henson. Those awards will finally be given out this weekend, so we’ll get to see how they did.
Keep watching and keep recommending it to everyone you know because I want this show to run at least as long as other sitcoms like Friends, The Office, Parks and Recreation, and even Cheers did. It’s so funny, and if you know any teachers, then it’s clear the show is too real. Here’s what we know about Abbott Elementary season 3 so far.
So, Abbott Elementary is getting another season?
Yep! ABC renewed the series on the heels of its Golden Globes, SAG, and last Emmy wins. The network is all in. “Each week, this talented group of artists celebrates true unsung heroes—public school teachers,” Channing Dungey, chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Television Group, told Variety. “Abbott Elementary is the gift that keeps on giving, and I look forward to many more magnificent episodes of this brilliant, authentic, and just plain funny series.”
When is Abbott Elementary coming back for season 3?
According to Variety, Abbott Elementary season 3 will hit ABC at 9 p.m. on February 7, 2024, with an hour-long (!!!) season premiere episode. That’s a Wednesday, btw!
Who will be in Abbott Elementary season 3?
We can assume that Quinta Brunson, Tyler James Williams, Janelle James, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Lisa Ann Walter, and Chris Perfetti will stick around for the next season. The ensemble is too good to break up! Hopefully, Ayo Edebiri will also make more appearances as Janine’s sister (and Taraji P. Henson as their mom!).
William Stanford Davis, aka Mr. Johnson, was upped from recurring to series regular in season 2. Who would you like to see get promoted next year? My votes are for Keyla Monterroso Mejia, who plays Melissa’s assistant Ashley and Larry Owens, who plays Jacob’s boyfriend Zach. And don’t forget that Tariq, played by Zack Fox, has moved back to Philly, so there’s always a chance he might reappear too!
What will happen in Abbott Elementary season 3?
If only we could get in the head of the genius Quinta Brunson. But we do have some major questions about the future! Will Gregory take steps toward his goal to become a principal? Will Barbara retire? (Please no.) Will the zombie apocalypse that Ava has been prepping so much for finally happen? So much can go down, but I trust Quinta and co. to make it awesome no matter what.
How many episodes will be in Abbott Elementary season 3?
Shoutout to Deadline‘s sources, because they just spilled that Abbott Elementary season 3 will have 14 new episodes for us to obsess over. Since it’s a half-hour sitcom, the new season was bound to have 10 or more episodes, and because it’s shot with a single camera, it takes longer to produce. How! Ever! a single-camera sitcom can still be delivered faster than a drama series like The White Lotus, according to Deadline.
