James Gunn was not a fan of this season of Love Island USA.
The Superman director, who is just as into reality tv as the rest of us, made an appearance on The Viall Files podcast and chatted about the show—saying this season was “a little bit of a letdown” especially since “the previous season of Love Island USA was maybe the best season of any Love Island ever. Crazy.”
James also doesn’t seem on board with Nicolandria (Nic Vansteenberghe and Olandria Carthen), saying “I feel like Nicolandria…do we think that’s a real thing? They’re still dating right? I felt zero chemistry.”
He then noted that his “one hot take” is that Taylor Williams and Clarke Carraway were “the most real” relationship of the season, explaining “The relationship that seemed the most real to me throughout the whole season was the cowboy guy, Taylor and Clarke. Who’s totally nice. They really seemed to like each other in a completely real way. And then all of a sudden he’s at the bottom of everything?” But wait, there’s more! James also said this of Huda Mustafa: “I feel sorry for that girl. But how did she last so long?”
If you’re currently looking more than incredulous at the moment, James did admit that he’s usually “on the outs” with viewers due to watching the show from a male POV. Which, kay.
Either way, reminder that the Love Island USA Season 7 reunion airs on Monday, August 25 (literally just a few days from now!) at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Peacock.
