Big Bows for New Year’s Eve

What better way to end the holiday season than showing everyone that you are the present?! Finish off any hairstyle (although I’m obsessed with Olivia Culpo‘s slicked-back, braided bun here) with a giant bow hair accessory for an easy but supremely festive look.

2

This Slick, Structured Bun for NYE 2024

Dare I say, this is the best New Year’s Eve hairstyle because it fully embraces your greasy, unwashed hair after Christmas. Slick back your hair with some gel (I’m currently obsessed with hair sticks, like Emi Jay’s Angelstick, to make sure every single flyaway is locked TF down). Then, gather all of your hair in the back of your head into a ponytail, twirling it around the base until you form a bun.

3

Extra Long and Sleek New Year’s Hairstyle

Trust: This look will never go out of style and always has a glam factor, making it perfect for all the NYE pics you’re gonna take. To get your hair straight as can be like Jordyn Woods’s, smooth it dry with a blow-dry brush first, then go over it with a hair straightener. As you glide the flat iron through your hair, follow the iron with a thin comb to really get it sleek. Then, smooth through a hair oil to add mega shine.

New Year’s Hairstyle Idea: Volumized Roots with a Headband

While I’m certain Salma Hayek‘s hairstylist put in a whole lotta work into her waves above, I will probably achieve this look with minimal effort, and that’s okay too! Just brush out your day-old curls, then spray a little texture spray to give your hair some grit and movement. And to give it a New Year’s zhuzh, add a sparkly headband, and tease the hair behind it to give it some extra volume.

6

Old Hollywood Side Bangs for New Year’s

If you’re heading to a super glitzy party, then you should def try this Old Hollywood bang look like Lily Collins. Why? Because it’s impossibly chic and fancy, while also being shockingly simple to recreate at home. Part your hair to the side, and give yourself a blow out, curling all of your hair under with a round brush (I love using the round-brush and curl attachments on my Dyson Airwrap for this). Then, take a one-inch section of your bangs and swirl it into a C-shape. To keep it in place, pin it down with a no-crease hair clip for 20-30 minutes and slick it down with lots of strong-hold hair gel.

New Year’s Ribbon Braids

Ribbons are the “it” hair accessory of the holiday season (and will continue to be everywhere in 2024 too). So incorporate them into this simple yet stunning hairstyle for New Year’s to remind everyone that you’re ahead of the trends! To copy hairstylist Lacy Redway‘s look above from the Cristian Siriano Spring/Summer 2024 show, pin a long piece of ribbon to the center of your head and incorporate it into a braid on either side of your head. When you reach the nape of your neck, twist your hair into a bun and wrap the ribbon around, tying it into a bow or leaving it down for an ~undone~ vibe.

New Year’s Hairstyle Idea: Undone, Textured Waves

I’m all about playing up high and low, like pairing a fancy-schmancy New Year’s Eve dress with intentionally messy beachy waves. Juxtaposition, bb! A hair waver will help you achieve this piece-y style, but also load up on texturizing spray to get a matte finish throughout your hair to make it even more ~ perfectly imperfect~.

9

Flippy Ends and Side Bangs for New Year’s Eve

Enter 2024 on a more ~prim and proper~ note with this ’60s-inspired hairstyle. These flipped-out ends feel so fun for a night out, especially paired with glam side bangs and a cute bow accessory. This look is extra special when your looks super shiny, so highly recommend coating your hair in shine spray as the final step.

Low, Messy Bun with NYE Bling

You know that messy, effortless bun that’s actually *very* tricky to pull off? Well, it gets a New Year’s Eve update with a pretty barrette (plus some glittery earrings) for a look that says, “I look amazing but I promise I didn’t try that hard” (even if you did, lol). You can either rlly invest with a high-end hairpiece or go with a less-expensive barrette, but either way, you can rewear it in 2024.

11

Pearl Accessories for New Year’s

The volume, the curls, the hair crystals—this whole look is *chef’s kiss*. With a tiny bit of lash glue for reinforcement, you could dot these individual pearl stickers onto the top of your head, or use a studded headband if you’d rather do something simpler.

12

NYE Wavy Bob

The wavy bob is super-chic, and so are bangs, so this style’s got everything you need to look trendy but also really good. Use a flat iron to achieve that crimped but not too crimped style. BRB, saving this under “looks to try when I finally get brave enough to cut my hair.”

13

Twisted, High Pony for New Year’s

A classic ponytail is great, sure, but if you’ve got the length for it, try this long hairstyle that features a section of hair wrapped around the ponytail base. (You could also, ahem, very easily use ponytail extensions and look just as chic.)

14

Face-Framing Micro-Braids for NYE

Channel Y2K with two lil tightly woven braids at the front of your face. (And your hair doesn’t have to be this long to pull it off, ofc!) Just part your hair down the middle, section off the front pieces, secure it with clear hair ties, and use hairspray to keep the flyaways away.

15

A Headband-Bow-Ponytail Look for New Year’s Eve

The fabric headband doesn’t just have to be a casual look, y’all. This slicked-back hair, combined with a velvet bow and laid edges, makes for a ‘do that stays out of your eyes but also feels “done” in the best way. Keep the headband in place by spritzing some strong hairspray on the underside before you place it.

Wavy Faux Bang for New Year’s

The long, wavy tendril manages to be dramatic and romantic, thanks to the extreme side part. If you want Kristen Stewart’s look, you’ll need mousse, a curling iron, plenty of hairspray, and some bobby pins depending on your hair length. Bleach-blonde color: optional.

17

New Year’s Wavy Pixie

Just because you’ve got a pixie cut doesn’t mean you’re limited in how you can style it. This look features soft ’90s waves in the front that you can do yourself with a lotta setting mousse and a strong hairdryer.

18

Barette New Year’s Hairstyle

For New Year’s Eve, you’ve gotta pull out all the stops—and by “stops,” I mean sparkles. Use a rhinestone barrette, or pin a studded choker necklace to your hair to create your own custom hairpiece.

Voluminous Curls for NYE

A glitzy, glamorous holiday like New Year’s Eve deserves an equally glamorous hairstyle like this one. When it comes to this long curly hairstyle, the bouncier and bigger the curls, the better.
